Brazil has proven to be a leader in climate issues by making commitments at COP26, the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in 2021, however, it has delivered less than it can, according to the assessment of the coordinator of the International Relations course from FAAP, Fernanda Magnotta, in an interview with CNN this Wednesday (3).
In view of the commitments made by the country during COP26, which takes place in Glasgow, Scotland, Magnotta assesses that “the current government made a promise that someone there in 2030 should fulfill and, halfway through, is receiving resources for it”.
Brazil signed a global commitment to reduce methane gas emissions by 30% together with a group of more than 100 countries and, according to President Jair Bolsonaro (no party), the country will eliminate illegal deforestation by 2030 and reduce emissions by 43%.
For the teacher, Brazil is “a leader and protagonist, but on the other hand, it ends up delivering less than it can and, in a way, receiving [em financiamentos] perhaps more than it deserves”.
