The Brazil-Israel parliamentary group condemned this Tuesday (14) the statements of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) who, earlier, stated that Hamas committed a “terrorist” act, but criticized Israel’s response to the attacks .
During the “Conversa com o Presidente” program, Lula said that attacks that include women and children among the victims are actions equal to “terrorism”.

“The United Nations needs to call for something special, because this war, as it is, has no end. It has no end. I’m noticing that Israel seems to want to occupy the Gaza Strip and expel the Palestinians from there. This is not right, it is not fair. We have to guarantee the creation of the Palestinian state so that they can live in peace together with the Jewish people”, said the president.
In a statement, the parliamentary group and the Evangelical Parliamentary Fronts of the National Congress said that “Brazil, officially, should criticize and demand an end to the financing of terrorism maintained by the Islamic Republic of Iran for Hamas and Hezbollah groups”.
“President Lula is misguided by the current group that commands the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and which, increasingly, leads Brazil to become smaller on the world stage among developed and democratic countries”, says the document.
A CNN contacted Palácio do Planalto to comment on the note and is awaiting a response.

The Brazilian government has defended a ceasefire to facilitate a peace agreement and is working to remove people from the conflict region. Brazilians who were in Israel and the West Bank were the first to be repatriated.
This Monday (13), Lula went to the Brasília air base to receive a group of 32 people removed by the Brazilian government from the Gaza Strip. The group had 22 Brazilians and 10 Palestinians.
During the reception, the president also criticized Israel’s attacks on Gaza and said there is “terrorism” and “inhumane violence against innocent people”.
