Brazil: Lula’s popularity is increasing amidst US trade war

The popularity of Brazilian President Luis Inasio Lula da Silva has surpassed, for the first time in nine months, the percentage of Brazilian voters’ dissatisfaction on his face, against the backdrop of the growing trade war with the US. This month US President Donald Trump said he would impose a 50% duty on Brazilian exports in retaliation for “witch hunting” against his close ally, far -right former President Zaich Bolsonaru. Yesterday, he signed the executive decree that increases the duties, but with some exceptions. The Trump government has also imposed penalties on the judge chaired by Bolsonar’s trial on charges of attempted coup. Lula’s government reacted, calling Trump “unwanted emperor” and “unacceptable” sanctions. The Atlasintel/Bloomberg poll shows that 50.2% of respondents approve Lula’s handling (from 49.7% two weeks ago).
