THE Brazil recorded 1,127 deaths due to Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours and 43,812 new cases of the new coronavirus, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday Sunday, at the end of the deadliest week since the beginning of the pandemic a year ago.

From Sunday, March 7, to Sunday, March 14, 12,818 people in Brazil succumbed to Covid-19, averaging 1,831 a day. That was much higher than the rolling average of 1,000 deaths a day in January and February, indicating the severity of the pandemic resurgence.
The country of 212 million people now counts a total of 11,483,370 infections of the new coronavirus and 278,229 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health, in the second worst performance in the world, both in cases and deaths, after the USA.
