“What we have to work on quickly: showing that we are not just hosting this event, but we want to present solutions and effectively demonstrate the transformations that Brazil is carrying out based on these initiatives by the federal government and local governments, and, consequently, the Brazil leaves the condition of a problem and presents itself as a solution”, he pointed out.
He also stressed that it is necessary to attract the support of other countries so that there is investment in knowledge, science and technology, making it possible for the “standing forest” to be a component of the economy, or, as the governor classified it, a “global commodity”.

Data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) show that deforestation alerts in February this year increased by 62% compared to the same month in 2022.
Pará, however, was the only one of the nine states that make up the Legal Amazon to have a reduction in this index, by 6%. Considering the first two months of 2023, this drop is 33%.
As for the fight against deforestation, Barbalho said during the interview that it is fundamental that the federal control bodies are quickly restructured in order to be able to “exercise the supervisory role”.
“The fundamental thing is that we can build actions that are simultaneous in the states of the Legal Amazon so that, effectively, in the areas of federal jurisdiction, the control bodies are acting”, he stated.
“At the same time, the states have to fulfill and do their homework, with their local structures, so that we can act simultaneously, combating any and all environmental illegalities”, he added.
In addition, the governor reinforced that it is necessary to initiate the discussion of a national policy for the transition of land use and “run with the carbon credit”.
Finally, he also addressed the beginning of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), considering that it is necessary to value the “resumption of dialogue”.
“Brazil started talking again. Talking to people who conciliate and diverge their thoughts, but the exercise of dialogue is a great advance”, she said.
