Itamaraty is negotiating with Egypt the possibility of a “humanitarian corridor” to remove Brazilians from the Gaza Strip. The possibility was signaled by the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The operation, in addition to allowing the evacuation of people, would also make it possible to send aid to the region most affected by the conflict between Israel and Hamas. “A humanitarian corridor is needed to provide medical supplies,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said at a press conference in Geneva.
The humanitarian corridor would be the best way out because the route to the border with Egypt has been bombed by Israel daily. The idea is for Brazilians to leave the region through the Rafah checkpoint, the Gaza region’s only border with another country besides Israel.
In total, it is estimated that around 60 Brazilians are in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian territory. At least 26 have already requested repatriation.
