Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has sacked army chief Julio Cesar de Arunda, two weeks after attacks on power centers in Brasilia, local media reported today.
Julio César de Arunda had held the position temporarily since December 30, two days before the end of the term of far-right President Jáche Bolsonaro, and in early January Lula’s new government confirmed his tenure in the post.
We remind you that a few days ago Lula announced the replacement of all members of the presidential guard guarding his residence, i.e. dismissed 40 soldiers from their post.
He accused them of being involved in recent unrest in the country, where supporters of Bolsonaro have been calling for the military to stage a coup.
