Brazil receives nod for Dilma’s appointment to Banco dos Brics, say government advisors

The Brazilian government received the green light from countries that make up the Brics for the nomination of former president Dilma Rousseff for the presidency of the New Development Bank (NDB), according to members of the PT administration.

As found out by CNN , an informal survey was conducted by the Brazilian government of leaders in Russia, China, India and South Africa. And the response would have been positive from all members of the bloc of countries. With the signal, the articulation at this moment is for the departure of the former diplomat Marcos Troyjo from the command of the financial institution.

According to reports made to CNN Troyjo could leave the post and occupy a position in the management of Tarcísio Freiras, in São Paulo.

A CNN revealed that Dilma indicated to members of the federal government that she is interested in taking over the NDB. The petista has discussed the subject with close allies, including specialists in the Asian country, and has consumed content related to the history and economic development of China, a topic in which she has always shown interest.

The bank’s head office is in Shanghai. The PT’s allies recall that the financial institution was created in 2015, during her government, and that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has already sounded out Dilma about the possibility of her occupying a position in an international body.

Dilma is expected to accompany Lula on his trip to Beijing, scheduled for March. The strategy would be to transform the former president’s presence into one more element of pressure for the change in command of the Banco dos Brics.
