Brazil receives support from Egypt to rescue Brazilians in the Gaza Strip

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, received support from the Foreign Minister of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, for the rescue of Brazilians in the Gaza Strip. The two spoke this Wednesday (11) by phone.

According to Itamaraty, Shoukry promised efforts to open the Rafah crossing, the Gaza region’s only border with another country besides Israel.

It is estimated that around 60 Brazilians are in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian territory. At least 26 have already requested repatriation.

The exit by Egypt of Brazilians in Gaza is considered the best solution by Brazilian diplomacy, given the difficulty of accessing the location. The intention is for these Brazilians to be picked up on a bus and taken to a FAB flight, in Egypt, to return to Brazil.

The Brazilian chancellor also spoke to the embassies in Cairo, Tel Aviv and Ramallah about this land evacuation.

The assessment is that this is an important step in the negotiation, amid several conditions. Any movement will depend on authorization from the Israeli government.
