Brazil recorded 31 deaths and 2,775 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) released this Saturday (16). The states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte have not updated the pandemic numbers in recent hours due to “technical problems”, the council said.
With the update of the pandemic data, Brazil already has 661,938 deaths and 30,250,077 infections by the new coronavirus. In the last seven days, the country accounts for a moving average of 103 deaths per day and 14,984 daily infections caused by the disease.
São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná are the states that lead in numbers of cases of the disease. In terms of number of deaths, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais are the most affected states, respectively.
Pfizer generates rapid 3rd dose immune response in children
Pfizer and BioNTech plan to apply for Emergency Use Authorization for the 3rd dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for children ages five to 11. According to information released on the companies’ official website on Thursday (14), the request will be made to global regulatory agencies based on data extracted from a recent survey.
They point out that the production of antibodies against the original strain of SARS-CoV-2 increased six-fold after the application of 10 micrograms of the immunizer in 140 children, a response considered “robust”.
The result considers the comparison of the increase in antibodies observed after the application of the second dose and the study is focused on immunogenicity, which is the ability of the defense system to develop a response and neutralize the virus.
