Brazil records 929 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, the highest number since September

Brazil recorded, in the last 24 hours, 929 deaths from Covid-19, the highest number since September 18, 2021, when the country had registered 935 deaths from the disease. There were also 193,465 Covid-19 infections.

The numbers are from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) and were released this Tuesday (1).

With the new indices, both the moving average of cases (which had fallen slightly in the last two days) and the number of deaths registered an increase. The moving average of cases is at 186,985 (an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous day) and that of deaths at 603 (an increase of 11% compared to yesterday).

Moving average is the number that considers the average of the last seven days and serves to avoid distortions.

In all, Brazil has already accumulated 25,620,209 cases of Covid-19 and 628,067 deaths from the disease.

Doctors explain the reasons for the growth of the Ômicron variant in Brazil

Studies have suggested that this strain of the coronavirus is in fact less aggressive than the previous ones, among other factors, because it has a lower ability to invade lung tissue. On the other hand, the greater affinity with the cells of the upper airways seems to have given Ômicron a power of dissemination that has been compared to that of measles – one of the most contagious pathogens ever described. Omicron symptoms are milder, but immunity is also lower, study suggests

Natural infection by Covid-19 confers a certain immunity against the new coronavirus, which tends to decrease over time. Researchers in the United States found evidence that people infected with the Ômicron variant have lower levels of antibodies compared to those infected with the Delta variant. Know more.

Lack of masks in public transport increases the capacity of contamination of Covid-19

A study by the Brazilian Society for Contamination Control (SBCC) analyzed the size of the risk. The analysis of the results indicates that public transport has a higher level of agglomeration than that of a full restaurant or a hospital, without sufficient air renewal rate inside vehicles for the efficient elimination of droplets contaminated by the virus.
