Brazil records more than 460 deaths from dengue in 2024

Brazil registered 467 deaths per dengue and 1,626,707 probable cases of the disease this year alone, according to data from the Ministry of Health's Arbovirus Panel released this Wednesday (13). Another 863 deaths are under investigation to determine whether they are related to the arbovirus .

The percentage of possibly infected people among men and women corresponds to 44.5% and 55.5%, respectively. Regarding the age group, the most affected by the disease is those aged 20 to 29, with 141,196 records for males and 172,866 for females.

During a press conference this Tuesday (12), the Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, said that Brazil had a slowdown in relation to the number of probable dengue cases.

Despite this statement, the secretary warned that each state entered the epidemiological crisis at different times and also highlighted concern about serotypes of the disease, with 4 in circulation in 2024.

According to data from the folder, Minas Gerais remains the state with the highest number of cases, with 548,704 probable diagnoses. Next, São Paulo (300,141), Paraná (155,113), Distrito Federal (140,057), Rio de Janeiro (124,687), Goiás (90,702) and Espírito Santo (62,330) stand out.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Ricardo Leite (PSDB), declared a public health emergency in the state due to the virus yesterday (12). The decree was published today in the Official State Gazette.

So far, Acre, Amapá, Goiás, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal District have already declared an emergency.
