The Ministry of Health announced, this Friday (16), that Brazil registered 555,583 probable cases of dengue, with 94 confirmed deaths from the disease.
According to the ministry, another 381 deaths are under investigation to find out whether they are related to the disease.
According to data from the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, Minas Gerais is the state with the highest number of probable cases, with 192,258 cases.
Following are São Paulo (90,408), Distrito Federal (67,768), Paraná (58,660) and Rio de Janeiro (41,435).
According to the ministry's classification, a state reaches the maximum level of incidence coefficient when it reaches or exceeds 500 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, four states are at this level, they are: Federal District (2,405.6), Minas Gerais (936.1) , Acre (622.4) – with 5,166 cases, and Paraná (512.6).
Four other states such as Goiás (487.6), EspÃrito Santo (449.4) – with 17,227 probable cases, Rio de Janeiro (258.1) and São Paulo (203.5) also have high numbers per 100 thousand inhabitants.
Still according to the ministry, the majority of probable cases are women with 54.9%, compared to 45.1% of men. The most affected age group are adults between 30 and 39 years old, with 59,097 cases in women and 49,526 cases in men. In the last week, the number of patients among adults aged 40 and 49 also increased, with 51,756 cases in women and 40,369 in men.
This Friday (16), the Ministry of Health reported that it had started a study to verify the effectiveness of the dengue vaccine in the adult population. The research is in partnership with the city of Rio de Janeiro and Fiocruz, and will immunize 20 thousand volunteers between 18 and 40 years old from the regions of Guaratiba, in the west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, with the Qdenga vaccine, manufactured by the Japanese laboratory Takeda.
Ten cities in the state of São Paulo received doses of the vaccine sent by the Ministry on Thursday (15). The São Paulo State Department of Health (SES) sent 79,400 doses of the dengue vaccine to the Epidemiological Surveillance Group (GVE) of Mogi das Cruzes for distribution. In addition to Mogi, the doses will be sent to the cities of Guarulhos, Suzano, Itaquaquecetuba, Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Poá, Arujá, Biritiba-Mirim and Salesópolis.
Other doses of the vaccine should arrive in the municipalities of Santa Isabel and Guararema, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, on Monday (19). To CNN, the cities informed that they should begin vaccination against dengue on Tuesday (20).
