Brazil registered 32,701 new cases of HIV in 2020, of which 7,8 thousand were pregnant. The highest incidence of cases (52.9%) was registered among people aged 20 to 34 years, with 69.8% of cases in men and 30.2% cases in women.
The data were released by the Ministry of Health this Wednesday (1st), World Day to Fight AIDS.
According to the ministry, in 2020 there was a 25% reduction in the detection of HIV cases compared to the previous year, when 43,312 cases were registered. During the period, there was a 30.3% increase in the virus detection rate in pregnant women.
The ministry informed that the rate of detection of Aids in children under five years old has reduced in the last 10 years.
From 2012 to 2020, 666,000 people were being treated for the disease. According to the Ministry of Health, 694,000 people are being treated for the disease in the country in 2021.
