Brazil registers 18 points of blockades and interdictions on highways, says PRF

Three weeks into the second round of elections, demonstrations against the results of the polls continue to mobilize Brazil. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), there are 25 points of blockades and interdictions this Monday (21).

Interdictions occur in four states: Minas Gerais has one interdiction, the state of Mato Grosso registers eight interdictions and seven blockades, Paraná has one interdiction and Rondônia has eight interdictions.

In Minas Gerais the occurrence is registered in the city of Uberlândia, while in Mato Grosso the acts are registered in Confresa, Lucas do Rio Verde, Sinop, Campo Novo dos Parecis, Sapezal and Campos de Júlio.

Since November 10, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) has determined that the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police adopt the necessary measures to clear public roads.

However, the number of acts has been increasing since the 17th of November, as he explained to CNN the general coordinator of institutional communication of PRF Cristiano Vasconcelos da Silva.

“We had demonstrations from October 30th to November 8th, since November 8th we’ve had eight days without any interdiction or blockade. From the 17th to the 18th of November, the points of interdiction and blockade began again. We are working hard to clear the obstruction”, said the coordinator.

According to Cristiano Vasconcelos da Silva, the current blockades and interdictions have more violent characteristics. According to the interviewee, 11 people were arrested and 50 protesters were sent to the judicial police to provide clarification.

“Before we saw demonstrations, now they are criminal acts, terrorist acts on our federal highways, with burning tires, shooting trucks with guns, trying to use dynamite, explosions, burning bridges to prevent traffic, we are working hard to curb it” , he stated.

For the PRF Communication coordinator, the acts violate everyone’s constitutional rights.

“There are truck drivers being attacked, with their loads being thrown on the highway, they are throwing oil on federal highways. There is no specific agenda, they make the blockades and those who are against it suffer aggression”, she says.
