Security forces men brought them back under their control the Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace in Brasilialocal TV channel Globonews reported.
A little earlier, the president of Brazil Luis Inácio Lula da Silva declared “federal intervention” until January 31, which means that security forces, which are usually controlled by state and local authorities, will be brought under federal command.
The decree places all of Brasilia’s security forces under the control of a person appointed by Lula, Ricardo García Capelli. The latter is directly accountable to the president and can use “any instrument, civil or military” to maintain order.
Lula condemned the invasion of “fascist vandals” stressing that “we will find them all and they will all be punished”.
“Democracy guarantees freedom of expression but also requires that institutions be respected. What these vandals, these fanatical fascists did (…) has no precedent in the history of our country. Those who funded (the protests) will pay for these irresponsible and undemocratic actions,” he insisted.
