Brazil sends food and medicine to victims of war in Ukraine

More than 11 tons of food, medicine and water purifiers will be shipped this Monday (7th) to victims of the war in Ukraine. Brazil’s humanitarian donation goes straight to Poland, the main route for Brazilians who are in the conflict region.

The groceries were collected by the União BR Movement, at the request of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, linked to Itamaraty. There are 400,000 quick meals. The stock is stored in a Brazilian Air Force plane, which will take off from the Guarulhos base, in São Paulo, and has the capacity to bring 80 people.

The donation came from a Brazilian company specializing in instant and natural food. “We have been working with this meal in urgent causes. They are nutritious foods that, mixed with water, turn into soup and risotto”, explains the founder and coordinator of União BR, Tatiana Monteiro.

The founder of Movimento União BR said that weeks ago, in Brazil, she distributed food to victims of heavy rains in Bahia, Maranhão, Minas Gerais and Petrópolis (RJ). “Now, risottos and soups will not only satisfy the hunger of Ukrainians, but above all, feed them, physically and psychologically.”

In a note, the Ministry of Defense informed that the cargo is already prepared for shipment. Upon arrival in Poland, groceries will be unloaded and distributed at embassies located on the country’s border with Ukraine. The return of the aircraft to Brazil is scheduled for Thursday (10)

The same Brazilian Air Force aircraft that will carry the food and medicine will carry out the rescue of Brazilian citizens refugees from Ukraine. So far, about 150 Brazilians have managed to leave Ukraine and go to border countries, mainly Poland and Romania, with the support of the Brazilian Embassies in these countries.

“The initiative is a joint effort by the Government of Brazil, which promptly mobilized to rescue Brazilians and to respond to the Ukrainian government’s request for humanitarian support”, says an excerpt from the ministry’s note.

For Itamaraty, the union of all was essential to make the operation viable. These foods, as well as the other items of the humanitarian donation from Brazil, were gathered “to meet the most pressing needs of the Ukrainian people”, explains a note from the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.
