Brazil surpasses 2.5 million cases of dengue fever; deaths reach 923

Brazil surpassed 2.5 million cases of dengue this Monday (1st). In the first three months of the year, the number of deaths reached 923 and threatens to break the record from 2022, which had 1,016 confirmed deaths throughout the entire year.

The total number of cases to date is 2,573,293. In addition to the confirmed deaths, 1,456 deaths are under investigation.

Even with the numbers, states in the North Region, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais in the Southeast, and practically the entire Center-West, with the exception of Mato Grosso Sul, show signs of a slowdown in new cases of dengue.

According to the Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance at the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, these states have already reached their peak and are in a decreasing phase.

Last week, the Ministry of Health announced that the 154 municipalities recently included in the folder's list to receive vaccines against dengue will begin receiving doses of the vaccine today.

Dengue in Latin America

The dengue contamination curve in Brazil is slowing down, but the numbers continue to worry international authorities.

One day after Puerto Rico declared a public health emergency, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) warned last Thursday (28) that the outbreak of the disease in the Americas could be the worst ever recorded, with Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay leading the continent's ranking.
