The Federal Government decided, this Thursday (19), to send a humanitarian mission to Canada to help fight the forest fires that have hit the country since March.
The Canadian government had asked President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for help, according to the Planalto Palace. The Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be responsible for coordinating the mission.
Brazil’s expenses with sending the mission will be reimbursed by Canada, which will also provide aircraft for the transport of Brazilian specialists and their equipment, Planalto said in a note.
Professionals from the following bodies will participate in the mission:
- Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama);
- Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBIO);
- National Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR);
- National Public Security Force (FNSP);
- Military fire brigades of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Tocantins and the Federal District.
