Brazil wants extradition of “weapons master” arrested by Interpol

The Federal Court in Bahia requested the extradition of Argentinean Diego Hernan Dirisio and his wife, Julieta Vanessa Nardi Aranda, so that the couple can serve their sentences in Brazil.

Dirísio is identified by the Federal Police as the biggest arms dealer in South America. And he is suspected of having sold at least 43 thousand weapons to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and the Comando Vermelho (CV).

According to the PF investigation, the scheme would have generated R$1.2 billion over three years.

“They have to answer to Brazilian law and we hope that they will be convicted and arrested here, and serve their sentence in Brazil. It is a very important response that we can give to organized crime, to criminal factions, to groups that operate in international arms trafficking,” delegate Flávio Albergaria, superintendent of the Federal Police in Bahia, where the attacks take place, told CNN. investigations.

In December, the PF launched the “Dakovo” operation and Dirísio was the main target for arrest, but he was not found and entered the Interpol fugitive list.

At the beginning of February, he and his wife ended up arrested in Argentina during an Interpol operation. Brazil, then, wants him to be extradited to serve his sentence on Brazilian soil.

The suspect is the owner of a company based in Paraguay that purchased weapons from Eastern Europe and managed to pass the products on to criminals through shell companies. The importer's headquarters are in Asunción, Paraguay.

The PF points out that the scheme imported thousands of pistols, rifles and ammunition from several European manufacturers based in Croatia, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

The PF investigations began in 2020, when 23 pistols and two rifles were seized by the Federal Highway Police (PRF).
