This Tuesday, the general public began visiting the largest freshwater aquarium in the world, the Pantanal Biopark – Experience and Knowledge Space, opened at the end of March, in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul.
Visitors will have 1h30 to get to know this tourist complex and the preservation of fauna and flora, during guided tours that will take place in the morning and in the afternoon with the help of professionals.
There are 19 thousand square meters and 5 million liters of water housing several species of fish from the Pantanal region, as well as animals from continents such as Europe, Asia and Oceania. The destination promises to be one of the most popular attractions in the state, alongside, of course, the wetland and also Beautiful .
In total, according to information from the government of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, there are 20,000 species distributed in 33 tanks, 23 of them internal and eight external, which house 220 Neotropical species, including 151 Pantanal species; 55 from the Amazon; 14 from Africa and others from Oceania, Asia and Central America. The goal is soon to house 30,000 animals.
The architectural design is Rui Ohtake , who died in November 2021, before seeing the work being inaugurated. In addition to the aquarium, the space has the Biodiversity Museum, which will have exhibitions on themes related to the environment – the first is a traveling exhibition of fossils from Chapada do Araripe.
The Biopark is part of Mato Grosso do Sul’s current policy of preserving the environment, developing tourism and sustainable actions, which aim to make the state Carbon Neutral by 2030.
With an entire structure for environmental education, in April, the visitation was open only to groups of students and only on this Tuesday the visits of tourists and the general public began. It is necessary to make an appointment in advance by the site.
