THE Brazilian Academy of Cinema released this Tuesday (3) the official selection of the twelve national films that can compete for a place in the Oscar 2025 in the category of Best International Film .
From this list, a film will be chosen to then be sent to the Academy’s evaluation committee responsible for the Oscar so that, if approved, it will be nominated in the award category.
Among the main highlights are “I’m Still Here “, of Walter Salles recently shown on Venice Film Festival 2024 ; “Motel Destino “, of Karim Ainouz which premiered on Cannes Film Festival 2024 ; and “City; Countryside “, of Juliana Rojas awarded Best Direction at the Encounters show Berlin Film Festival 2024 .
A pre-list with six titles will be released by the Selection Committee on September 16, but the film chosen to represent Brazil in the category will be announced on the September 23 .
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expected to announce the Oscar shortlist later this year. The official finalists for the award will be revealed on January 17.
According to the rules of the awards, only one film from each country can be nominated for the Best International Film category.
