ANPD said that Tools for Humanity, a leading collection of biometrics for the World ID project, abuses financial incentives, and forbade the company to pay compensation in cryptocurrency. The regulator noted that the proposal of digital assets questions the freedom of choice of citizens, especially for those categories that are in a vulnerable position.
According to Brazilian legislation, the consent to the processing of personal data should be free, as well as clearly and unequivocally informing users about the goals and potential consequences of collecting biometry. ANPD expressed concern about the irreversible nature of the collection of such data, as well as the impossibility of their deletion.
The ANPD added that the decision of the regulator applies to all Brazilian companies that offer cryptocurrency or other form of financial compensation in exchange for the collection of biometric data.
Earlier, the Supreme Court of Chile ruled that the World ID crypto company, previously known as Worldcoin, deleted the biometric data of a 17-year-old girl who could be obtained without proper resolution.
