“Brazilian Breaking Bad”: police dismantle gang that manufactured methamphetamine in SP

The São Paulo Civil Police carried out an action this Tuesday (17) against a gang responsible for manufacturing and selling methamphetamine in São Paulo. The operation took place in the center of the capital of São Paulo.

The operation was named after Heisenberg – an allusion to the pseudonym used by the character Walter White in the American series “Breaking Bad”. In the series, White is a chemistry teacher who manufactured and sold methamphetamine.

Around 280 civil police officers took to the streets to execute 60 arrest warrants and 101 search and seizure orders. The group targeted by the action is mostly made up of foreigners, but has the support of a criminal faction in Brazil.

In the first phase of this operation, which took place in June, six people were arrested and two kilos of drugs were seized in total.

According to the investigations, the Department of Narcotics Investigations (Denarc) discovered ramifications of the gang, and, in addition, those involved are being investigated for the production, distribution and commercialization of the synthetic stimulant.

The people involved will be charged with drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal organization crimes.
