A 100-year-old man from Brusque, Santa Catarina, entered the Book of Records for working the longest in the same company: 84 years.
Despite his extraordinary achievement, Walter Orthmann’s advice to anyone looking for a long and fulfilling career is surprisingly common: do what you love and don’t eat junk food.
“You have to enjoy working. I started working with that willingness and fighting spirit,” she said, in an interview this week.
“You can’t just have any job just to say you’re working. It does not work. You won’t make it.”
According to local media, Orthmann started on the factory floor of a company now called RenauxView, which manufactures fabrics. Shortly after, he moved to the administrative sector and later became a sales manager.
To stay in shape, he stretches every day and takes care of his diet.
“I try to avoid salt and sugar,” he said. “I avoid things that hurt the intestines. I avoid Coca-Cola and other soft drinks. I only consume what is good for me. It really helps your body to be strong forever.”
