Brazilian businessman Marcio Rodrigues, 44, who was missing for 13 days after traveling to Switzerland, returned to Brazil this Friday (8). The information was confirmed to CNN by his family.
The businessman’s relatives have not yet shared details about what happened to him in Europe.
Marcio embarked on a business trip to Zurich, Switzerland, but lost contact with his family, who were in Brazil, days later, on November 8th.
The resident of Itupeva, in the interior of São Paulo, was located by the police on November 21, in Spain. At the time, the family reported that he was fine.
The missing
Márcio is a businessman, specialized in providing motivational and sales training. According to his wife, he was going to find a man who speaks Spanish to be his translator.
But, after this meeting, he sent a crying message to Ana Lúcia saying that he had fallen into a “trap”. Afterwards, the cell phone lost signal and the wife lost contact.
The investigation
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on November 17, in a note, that it was monitoring the situation through the Consulate General of Brazil in Zurich.
Furthermore, the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat clarified that the Homicide and Personal Protection Sector (SHPP) heard the victim’s wife and forwarded the case to the Federal Police, which would investigate with Interpol.
Interpol is investigating whether the Brazilian was a victim of human trafficking in Europe. According to sources heard by CNN the supposed business deal for which Rodrigues traveled to Switzerland could have been bait to attract him.
The case is being treated under secrecy, as investigations between the countries involved continue and information is exchanged between police forces using the Interpol database.
