The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, should meet in the coming hours with the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, to discuss the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
According to reports made to CNN by Brazilian diplomats, the expectation is to discuss both the position of the Brazilian government and the situation of Brazilians who are currently in Ukraine.
In an interview with the press, the Itamaraty reported this Thursday (24) the difficulty in rescuing Brazilians and that the Brazilian embassy in Ukraine is not in a position to carry out a rescue operation.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, igniting a war in the region, prompting reactions from world leaders.
According to Joe Biden, the president of the United States, he today launched the “largest economic sanctions ever imposed in history”.
Earlier, Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was following Russia’s attacks on Ukraine with “grave concern”.
“Brazil calls for the immediate suspension of hostilities and the start of negotiations leading to a diplomatic solution to the issue, based on the Minsk Accords and that takes into account the legitimate security interests of all parties involved and the protection of the civilian population. ”, said the note from the federal agency.
According to the statement, Brazil, as a member of the UN Security Council (United Nations), follows the discussions in all parties in search of a peaceful solution to the conflict “in line with the Brazilian diplomatic tradition and in the defense of solutions guided by the United Nations Charter and international law”.
