A couple of Ceará joined the Guinness World Records in February with the longest marriage of history between opposite sex couples. Manoel Angelim Dino and Maria de Sousa Dino were married on November 20, 1940, in Boa Viagem, Ceará City, and have been together for over 84 years.
The couple met when Manoel was 17 and Maria, 13, while working in family farming, but the relationship began years after the first contacts.
In the beginning, the relationship was not wellholded by Maria’s family. Manoel, with the purpose of gaining the confidence of the in -laws, built a house so that he and Mary could live together.
When they married, Manoel was 21 years old and Maria, 17. The two began marital life as a couple who worked side by side in cultivating and selling tobacco to support the growing family.
Over the years, they have raised 13 children and today have 55 grandchildren, 54 great -grandchildren and 12 great great -grandchildren.
After reaching the centenary, Manoel, 105, and Maria, with 101, they rest for most of the day. The union that has started 84 years ago has lasted to this day and is a source of inspiration for the rest of the family.
