The Japanese police arrested, on Saturday (3), a man suspected of being responsible for the fire that killed Brazilian researcher Amanda Borges da Silva, 30. Her body was found with burns, inside an apartment near Narita International Airport in Tokyo on Thursday, 1.
According to information from NHK, Japan state media, the suspect is called Abaseriya Patabadige Pathum Udayanga. He is 31 years old, is from Sri Lanka and is unemployed. Also according to NHK, he lived in the two-story apartment in the Hon-Sarizuka neighborhood.
Udayanga is suspected of a criminal fire because he left the apartment without putting out the fire. According to NHK, the fire would have started in the room and spread to the walls and the ceiling of the apartment.
He was questioned by police and admitted the accusations. Udayanga said he was so much panic that he could not erase the flames.
The Japanese police are still investigating the circumstances of what happened and what is Udayanga’s relationship with Amanda.
Born in Caldazinha, Goiás, Amanda Borges da Silva was graduated in letters and had just completed the master’s degree in the linguistics area.
She was on a walk in Asia and went to Japan in April to accompany her Formula 1 Suzuka Grand Prix, held on the 6th. He would also have visited her boyfriend’s relatives in South Korea.
A friend of the Brazilian said she stopped answering messages about two hours before her flight back to the country.
