An official car from the Brazilian Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria, was reportedly detained on the border with Turkey, with almost 55 kg of cocaine, according to the Bulgarian newspaper “24 Chasa”.
The car would have entered Turkey through the Kapıkule checkpoint, in the northwest of the country, after coming from a village in southern Bulgaria, according to the news portal.
The press outlet also states that the cocaine had been hidden in different parts of the vehicle and that the driver and another person had been arrested in Turkey for drug trafficking.
The Brazilian embassy in Bulgaria published a clarification note saying that it identified the lack of an official car and notified the Bulgarian authorities.
“With reference to recent news circulated in Bulgarian and Turkish media regarding the seizure of a diplomatic vehicle on the border between Bulgaria and Turkey, the Embassy informs that it has communicated to the appropriate Bulgarian authorities the absence of one of its official vehicles, removed from the premises from the embassy without authorization”, says the statement.
