The Brazilian economy registered growth of 2.9% in 2022, informed the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Thursday (2). The value shows a slowdown compared to last year, when GDP (Gross Domestic Product) grew by 5%.
In the fourth quarter, the indicator decreased by 0.2% compared to the immediately previous period.
The market expectation was a drop of 0.2% in the quarterly comparison and high of 2.2% in the year, according to a Reuters poll.
In current values, GDP, which is the sum of final goods and services produced in the country, totaled R$ 9.9 trillion.
GDP growth in 2022 was driven by the services (4.2%) and industry (1.6%) sectors, highlights the IBGE. Together, the two represent about 90% of the indicator. Agriculture, on the other hand, fell by 1.7% in 2022.
“Of this 2.9% growth in 2022, Services accounted for 2.4 percentage points. In addition to being the sector with the greatest weight, it was the one that grew the most, which demonstrates how high its contribution to the economy was during the year”, analyzes Rebeca Palis, coordinator of National Accounts at the IBGE.
