The Brazilian economy advanced 4.6% in 2021, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) reported this Friday (4), surpassing the losses of the previous year, the first of the coronavirus pandemic, when the economy contracted 3.9 %.
In the fourth quarter, GDP (Gross Domestic Product) increased by 0.5%.
The market expected an increase of 0.1% from October to December in relation to the immediately previous three months and of 1.1% compared to the same period last year.
The positive data for the fourth quarter shows an improvement in relation to previous quarters, when Brazil entered the so-called technical recessioncharacterized by two consecutive declines in GDP.
The GDP per capita reached R$ 40,688 last year, an increase of 3.9% in relation to the previous year (-4.6%). Last year income suffered a loss
IBGE data show that the service sector managed to pick up a recovery in the last quarter of the year. The industry, on the other hand, registered a worrying performance, loss of competitiveness and loss of space in the domestic and foreign markets.
