Brazilian film receives “best direction” award at Berlinale

The Brazilian film “City; Field ” received the award for best direction in the Encounters section of Berlin International Film Festival this Saturday afternoon (24).

In addition to being awarded, the director Juliana Rojas also made its international debut at the festival, known as Berlinale .

Shot in the city of São Paulo and in the rural area of ​​Mato Grosso do Sul, the feature film stars Fernanda Vianna, Mirella Façanha and Bruna Linzmeyer and talks about migration between urban and rural areas in two stories.

The film was part of the event's official selection, in the Encounters section, created to promote bold works by independent and innovative filmmakers.

The film was produced by Dezenove Som e Imagens, with co-production by Canal Brasil, Globo Filmes, Telecine, Spcine, Quanta, O2 Pós, Vitrine Filmes, Sutor Kolonko (Germany) and Good Fortune Films (France).

The Berlinale started on the 15th of this month and runs until this Sunday (25th).

In the first story, rural worker Joana migrates to São Paulo, after the collapse of a mining waste dam flooding her hometown.

She goes to meet her sister Tânia, who lives in a peripheral neighborhood with her grandson Jaime.

Joana seeks to prosper in the largest city in South America, known as the “city of work”. She enters the world of underemployment through apps, working as a cleaner.

In the second story of the film, Flávia moves with Mara, her partner, to the farm she inherited from her father, who recently passed away. The two women are looking for a new opportunity for life in the countryside.

Contact with the abandoned house reveals to Flávia unknown aspects of her father, with whom she had a distant relationship.

The couple suffers a reality check when facing the harshness of rural everyday life. Nature forces them to face frustrations and deal with memories and ghosts.
