Brazilian filmmaker launches platform for selling audiovisual NFTs

In parallel with the exhibitions of the main releases of world cinema – and the popular red carpet -, the Cannes Film Festival also performs in all its editions the Marché du Film or Mercado do Filme, a popular business fair that brings together producers, distributors and investors, who together often define the direction of the sector.

Representing Brazil this year, in addition to large producers such as RT Features by the filmmaker Rodrigo Teixeira – who this year competed for the Palme d’Or with the film “Armageddon Time”, starring Anthony Hopkins and Anne Hathaway -, was another Brazilian, the Maranhão Marcos Seneor .

During the event, the filmmaker and producer launched a new project, which she believes is the future of audiovisual: a platform for selling NFTs (non-fungible tokens) from movie scenes to series, the kinobaum .

“Blockchain technology is revolutionizing the world of transactions, business and contracts. And Kinobaum will be a store for movie scenes, series, music videos, soccer moves, skaters tricks and so many other genres in video files”, he tells CNN Seneor, who now lives in France.

“I developed an audiovisual NFTs store in which producers can create collections from their works and offer them at fixed prices or by auction. Buyer users can renegotiate at valued prices and producers will receive 9% royalties for all resales of their NFTs forever,” he explains of the transactions, which are expected to begin in June.

According to Seneor, the owners of the rights to these audiovisual works will be able to lie, that is, “tokenize, transform the asset into a token representation, and offer it to the fan base (fans), investors and crypto enthusiasts”.

To better understand, who will decide the initial price of the NFT are the creators of the collections and, then, whoever buys can resell at the price they decide and get – usually, it sells more expensive than it was bought.

Seneor gives an example of “a movie, which will have multiple scenes, takes, or takes divided into NFTs. Each of them is represented by a single NFT. The producer will then price with the value he considers and whoever buys will be able to sell guided by the impact it will have”.

“There are fans who buy and don’t want to get rid of them, investors who are called holders who buy NFTs as soon as they are launched, and wait months or years until they sell, when considering the maximum appreciation it will have, or many buy and resell. at the same time”.

“It is a fast, transparent and decentralized financing alternative, different from the traditional models of public notices or major players from film studios, TV channels and streaming platforms”, he concludes.
