The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, received this Friday (25) a call from the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
According to Itamaraty, they debate the serious security crisis in Ukraine and the treatment of the issue in the Security Council of the United Nations (UN).
As anticipated by the policy analyst at CNN Gustavo Uribe, the conversation between France and Blinken also addressed the situation of Brazilians in Ukraine.
This Thursday, Itamaraty’s Secretary of Communication and Culture, Leonardo Gorgulho, made a statement with guidelines for Brazilians who are in Ukraine at the moment.
However, according to him, “the Embassy of Brazil – or any other country – is not in a position to carry out a rescue operation”.
The secretary also highlighted that the embassies are on duty in other countries to assist Brazilian citizens who need assistance.
The Itamaraty guidelines also include the displacement of about 500 Brazilians who live in Ukraine to other regions and neighboring countries, including Moldova or Poland.
This Friday, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it follows with “grave concern” the Russian attacks on Ukraine.
“Brazil calls for the immediate suspension of hostilities and the start of negotiations leading to a diplomatic solution to the issue, based on the Minsk Accords and that takes into account the legitimate security interests of all parties involved and the protection of the civilian population. ”, said the note from the federal agency.
According to the statement, Brazil, as a member of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), follows the discussions in all parties in search of a peaceful solution to the conflict “in line with the Brazilian diplomatic tradition and in the defense of solutions guided by the United Nations Charter and international law”.

After months of military escalation and intemperance on the Ukrainian border, Russia attacked the Eastern European country. At dawn this Thursday (24), Russian forces began to bomb several regions of the country – follow the repercussion live on CNN.
Hours earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized a “special military operation” in the Donbas region (to the east of Ukraine, where the breakaway regions of Luhansk and Donetsk are located, which he recognized as independent). hours later, however, there was an attack on almost all of Ukrainian territory, with explosions in several cities, including the capital Kiev.
According to Ukrainian officials, dozens of deaths were confirmed in the armies of both countries. In his speech before the attack, Putin justified the action by saying that Russia could not “tolerate threats from Ukraine”. Putin urged Ukrainian soldiers to “put down your weapons and go home”. The Russian leader further stated that he will not accept any kind of foreign interference.
This attack on the former Soviet neighbor threatens to destabilize Europe and involve the United States.
Russia has been tightening its military grip around Ukraine for the past year, amassing tens of thousands of troops, equipment and artillery at the country’s gates.
In recent weeks, diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions have been unsuccessful.
The escalation in the years-long conflict between Russia and Ukraine has triggered the continent’s biggest security crisis since the Cold War, raising the specter of a dangerous confrontation between Western powers and Moscow.
