Brazilian in US immigration custody dies in New Mexico hospital

Brazilian Kesley Vial, 23, who was in the custody of the US Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) died in a hospital in New Mexico, in the United States, according to a statement released by the agency on Friday (26). Authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Vial was arrested in April as he tried to enter the country illegally through Texas. The Brazilian awaited the final decision of his immigration procedures, having been transferred to the Torrance County Detention Center in New Mexico.

According to information from the center, the victim was found unconscious on August 17 and taken to hospital after being tended to by local paramedics.

ICE informed that it notified the competent bodies, in addition to the Brazilian consulate in Houston and Vial’s family members.
