Brazilian man accused of rape kidnaps and kills stepdaughter in the United States

A 49-year-old Brazilian man kidnapped and killed his 16-year-old stepdaughter, last Thursday afternoon (30), in the district of Middlesex, Massachusetts, in the United States. The man was identified as Juliano Santana.

According to local police, the victim was kidnapped while returning from school, a few kilometers from where he lived. After the kidnapping, Santana allegedly took his own life after killing the young woman.

The Brazilian was on probation due to a pending case in the Middlesex High Court. His and his stepdaughter's bodies were located based on GPS monitoring from a device that the Brazilian was forced to use.

The pending case is the result of a complaint, in September 2021, in which the victim reported having been sexually assaulted by her stepfather. He was arrested and prosecuted for six counts of rape of a vulnerable person.

At the time, bail was set at $30,000, with the condition that he be placed on GPS monitoring, that he stay away from and have no contact with the victim, as well as supervised contact with minors under 18.

In addition to the active restraining order against the suspect, there was a trial date in this case that was set for July 29th.

When contacted, Itamaraty informed CNN that it is following the case through the Consulate General of Brazil in Boston, but that it does not provide information on individual cases of assistance to Brazilian citizens.
