The Brazilian Maitê Záquia was getting ready to leave the house and take the subway station at 36th Street, in New York, when the place was the target of a shooting on Tuesday (12).
So far, there are 13 wounded, with at least 5 hit by the shots. A person would be in critical condition.
“I am one station away from the 36th [onde aconteceu o ataque]I’m in it every day at the same time that everything happened, today I happened to be late”, he told, in an interview with CNN Radio.
She was told to stay in her apartment and said that everyone is scared. “It’s the biggest chaos, lots of people on the street, siren all the time and traffic stopped.”
Maitê is an actress and has lived in New York for 6 years and stated that she feels safe in New York, although she had some scares during that time: “There is not a place you go that does not have a policeman, it is a city where I feel safe, but sometimes these things happen, I’ve been through other scares too.”
“This one is a little more tense because it is a route that I use, I was supposed to be there, it is being a little more complicated”, he added. It’s a single line that goes through all the neighborhoods, takes everyone to go to Manhattan, it’s a very crowded line.”
According to preliminary information from NYPD, a man, possibly wearing a gas mask and orange vest, fled the scene.
Power has been cut to the N and R train lines as police investigate the situation.
