A 15-year-old Brazilian teenager died in an Israeli attack in Lebanon. The information was confirmed this Wednesday (25) to CNN by the Itamaraty.
The young man has been identified as Ali Kamal Abdallah. According to initial information gathered by authorities, the teenager was accompanied by his father, a Paraguayan national, when he was hit by an airstrike in the Beqaa Valley, 30 kilometers from the capital Beirut.
This is the first death of a Brazilian in the escalation of the conflict in Lebanon. The Brazilian embassy in Beirut is providing assistance to the family. The teenager was born in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná.
The Brazilian Embassy in Beirut began consulting Brazilians living in Lebanon on Tuesday (24) about their interest in receiving support from the Brazilian government to leave the Middle Eastern country.
Brazilians were instructed to fill out a form so that Brazil can continue planning a possible rescue operation.
The commander of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), Marcelo Damasceno, told CNN that the force is prepared to carry out a possible operation to rescue Brazilians in Lebanon, under attack by Israel.
“We always have all the plans ready,” said the commander.
Lebanon is home to the largest Brazilian community in the Middle East, with 22,000 people.
The embassy also advised Brazilians not to travel to Lebanon and recommended that residents or those passing through leave the country by their own means “until normality returns.”
Another recommendation is for those who decide to remain in Lebanon not to stay “in the south of the country, in border areas or in other areas of recognized risk.”
The Embassy also advised “adopting the security guidelines of local authorities, with attention to areas considered at risk”. And “reinforcing precautionary measures, especially in southern Lebanon, in border areas and in other areas of recognized risk”.
