Brazilians have already paid more than R$1 trillion in taxes since the beginning of 2022, according to data from the “Impostómetro”, a tool of the Commercial Association of São Paulo (ACSP). The mark was reached in the early hours of Tuesday (3), at 1:37 am.
The amount is equivalent to the amount paid by Brazilian taxpayers in taxes, fees and contributions to federal, state and municipal governments.
Last year, the amount was reached 16 days later, on May 19. For the entire year of 2021, Brazilians paid BRL 2,592,601,562,926.43 in taxes in total.
The highest amount in 2022, considering the same period last year, is a reflection of “the increase in prices and the consequent rise in inflation, since taxes are levied on the final value of goods”, explains ACSP economist Marcel Solimeo.
The state of São Paulo leads the tax collection to date, with more than R$ 350 billion collected, which represents 37% of the total collected in the country.
At the federal level, taxes related to Social Security are those with the highest amount collected this year, with a total of R$ 187 billion.
