Brazilians receive food and water in southern Gaza

Brazilians awaiting the exit from the south of the Gaza Strip received, this Tuesday (17), water and food sent by the Brazilian Representation in Palestine.

In Khan Yunis, where a group of 12 people wait to be repatriated to Brazil, there is a shortage of food and long queues are formed to buy bread. Furthermore, it was necessary to drink salt water.

“They sent us food, lots of water. It lasts a lot of days. I really appreciate this food. We were dying to drink good water”, said Brazilian Hasan Rabee in a video.

A CNN Rabee said he was surprised by the arrival of the food at the house in Khan Yunis where he is staying with his wife and two daughters.

“I was surprised. It is very difficult to find water and bread here,” said Rabee, reporting that he received rice, pasta, bread, tuna, fava beans, pasta and milk.

Due to the scarcity of food, Rabee said that the family was eating once a day.

Naturalized Brazilian in 2019, he is awaiting the opening of the Rafah crossing, on the Gaza border with Egypt, to return to Brazil. The operation depends on an understanding between Israel, Egypt and Hamas, which controls Gaza.

The Brazilian Representation in Palestine has already made a bus available so that, as soon as the border opens, the group can be taken to Rafah, where the other Brazilians are waiting. The journey between the two cities is 25 minutes, but may take longer due to the condition of the infrastructure hit by Israeli airstrikes.

Brazil is currently working to remove a group of 32 people from the conflict area on the Palestinian side. There are 22 Brazilians, seven Palestinians with a temporary visa or residence permit visa and three more Palestinians who are close relatives of these Brazilians.
