The 32 Brazilians who managed to leave the Gaza Strip will spend the night this Sunday (12) in a hotel in Cairo, capital of Egypt, and will embark to return to Brazil on Monday morning (13), stated the Ministry of Relations Exteriors.
The information was shared by the folder on X, a social network formerly called Twitter.
“The group of 32 Brazilians and family members who left the Gaza Strip this morning have just arrived at the hotel where they will spend the night, in Cairo. The takeoff from Egypt to Brazil, on a FAB flight, will take place tomorrow, 11/13, in the morning”, wrote the official Itamaraty page.
The Brazilians managed to leave Gaza — crossing the border with Egypt through the Rafah crossing, the only one not controlled by Israel — in the early hours of this Sunday, according to information from Itamaraty.
Of the 34 people who asked the Brazilian government to be repatriated – 24 Brazilians and 10 close Palestinian family members –, who were granted authorization to leave Gaza in a list published last Thursday (9), 32 crossed Rafah for the first time since the beginning of the Israel’s war against Hamas.
Itamaraty said that two people from the original group gave up on repatriation and decided to remain in Gaza.
According to the CNN two Brazilians, mother and daughter, decided to stay in the Palestinian territory for personal reasons.
The Brazilians will travel 55 km by land until reaching Al-Arish airport, in Cairo. It is in this place where a Presidency of the Republic aircraft is already waiting for them to board back to Brazil.
In addition to humanitarian supplies, the plane is manned with a doctor, nurse and psychologist who will help everyone.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, declared this Sunday that the situation of the 32 Brazilians who were in Gaza and asked to be repatriated is “momentarily resolved”.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) intends to receive Brazilians personally at the Brasília Air Base.
