There are ten days to go until the start of the Qatar World Cup, and a survey by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the GetĂșlio Vargas Foundation (FGV Ibre) raised the inflation of the main products and items consumed by those who like to gather family and friends to watch the matches. Taking into account the last 12 months, the overall basket index was -0.94%.
The result was mainly driven by electricity and communication, which registered, respectively, deflation of 19.59% and 3.07%. The electricity bill, for example, was influenced by the adoption of the green flag, after a period of the water scarcity flag.
However, barbecue items were up. Beer is 10.9% more expensive, soft drinks and water have reached an increase of 11.10%. Beef meat rose 5.8% and pork, 2.46%.
âThe energy fell a lot because of the ICMS, which was cut. It was essential for this sharp drop in price. At the barbecue, we see that beef suffers more from the international dynamics and the increase in production costs. However, if you consider that every game day you will fill the fridge and make barbecue, the barbecue will weigh more on your pocketâ, evaluated economist Matheus Peçanha, the researcher responsible for the study.
For those who want to save money, the survey brings options for cuts that have fallen in the period of the last 12 months, such as pork shank (-1.73%), loin (-0.12%), pork ribs (-1 .54%) and beef rib (-0.04%).
According to the survey by FGV Ibre, it will also not be cheap to get together to accompany the team away from home. The cost of food in bars and restaurants rose by an average of 8.06% in the last 12 months.
âIt was a sector that suffered a lot in the pandemic, it faced two years with high food prices and now, in these moments of high demand, it inflates the price moreâ, said Peçanha.
Other products that make up the basket and that showed a high demand were sporting goods and decoration items. They registered 1.68% and 2.69% increases, respectively. However, the researcher points out that these items are usually purchased in seasonal periods and have low purchase priority compared to others.
