Brendan Fraser is applauded for six minutes in Venice and bursts into tears

The actor is back Hollywood and is already in the minds of those who think about the Oscars thanks to his performance in “The Whale”. He received a standing ovation for six minutes after the film was shown during the Venice Film Festival.

The video shared on social media showed Fraser teary-eyed as the audience applauded.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, the film focuses on Fraser’s character Charlie, a reclusive man trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter.

The “Stranger Things” actress Sadie Sink plays her daughter.

The “Mummy” star is being touted as a serious Oscar contender with his portrayal in the drama.

According to Variety, Fraser donned a prosthetic suit to play Charlie and told reporters at the film festival over the weekend about the role’s challenges, including having to “learn to move in a new way.”

“I developed muscles I didn’t know I had,” Fraser said.
