Brexit: Boris Johnson’s father wants French citizenship

After years of negotiations, Brexit will become a reality on the night of December 31, 2020 to 1is January 2021. If the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson greeted a “fantastic news” on Twitter, his father Stanley Johnson does not entirely share his opinion, reports RTL. The 79-year-old former MEP is even taking steps to obtain French nationality.

Stanley Johnson was one of the first British civil servants in Brussels, a member of the European Parliament and of the Commission, which led his children, including Boris Johnson, to spend part of their childhood in the Belgian capital and learn French.

” I am French “

The writer will be “always European, that’s for sure”, he insists, refusing to limit the European identity to the common market. However, it is important for him to have his French nationality recognized: “If I understood correctly, I am French. My mother was born in France, her mother was entirely French and her grandfather too. So for me, it’s a question of reclaiming what I already have, ”he confides at RTL’s microphone.

Boris Johnson’s family has long been torn apart over Brexit, as have many British families. In 2019, his younger brother Jo left the government, deeming his strategy too radical on the UK’s exit from the European Union and his sister Rachel, a 53-year-old journalist, is a pro-European activist. His mother, on the other hand, would have voted for Brexit, according to the Prime Minister himself.
