Brexit: Britons generally dissatisfied with the situation

It is four and a half years since the British voted in favor of Brexit, in the referendum in June 2016. And it will be a year, next March since the United Kingdom formally left the European Union (EU). What has happened since? Boris Johnson struck an economic and trade partnership deal at the end of 2020, but that has apparently not been enough to reassure his compatriots. According to a survey reported by CNN on Wednesday, February 17, the majority of Britons are not satisfied with the way things are developing, especially economically.

A survey was conducted by the Opinium Institute, for the British Foreign Policy Group office, among a representative sample of 2,002 Britons. 27% of those polled would like the UK to keep closer ties with the EU in order to eventually join it later. 22% would like better relations, without considering going back on Brexit one day. Also, 12% of those questioned would prefer to move further away from Europe.

The gap is widening between supporters and opponents of Brexit

Finally, 24% of those polled say they approve Boris Johnson’s agreement with a major reservation. They believe it was the “best possible deal” right now. What about a more distant future? 15% replied that they did not know how to position themselves on the subject.

This poll only increases the feeling that the British have been divided by a political divide since 2016. A situation that does not seem to be getting any better.
