Brics expansion cannot affect group efficiency, says Putin

In an interview this Friday (18), Vladimir Putin stated that the expansion of the BRICS cannot affect the bloc’s agility. Recently, new countries joined the bloc, such as Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.

“We will be careful, guided by two principles: multilateralism and efficient operation of the organization”, he commented.

Putin also considered that it is important for the bloc’s new members to consider the principles on which the BRICS were founded, but which can contribute to the group, also bringing interest from allies.

BRICS Summit

The next BRICS Summit, a bloc that brings together emerging countries, including Brazil, will be held between October 22nd and 24th, in Kazan, Russia.

The country led by Vladimir Putin is the current president of the bloc.

According to Itamaraty, progress in negotiations to adopt an alternative currency to the dollar in commercial exchanges between the bloc’s members and the creation of a category of “partner countries” should be discussed at the meeting.

Issues such as the war in the Middle East must also be addressed. However, the conflict in Ukraine was not on the agenda.
