An unnamed couple (bride and groom) became the subject of discussion in a Facebook group about “awkward wedding moments and stories” after they sent out invitations to Wedding them with a strange request to the guests.
The couple is under fire because they allegedly asked friends and family to contribute to the cost of the reception (buffet) that would follow, sending money along with their answer to whether they would attend the wedding. The amount requested reached 40 dollars for each of the guests.
“No, no, no, no, no, no and no,” the guest who shared the request to the group captioned the image.
The text of the invitation began by exempting the guests from the obligation to buy a gift: “Instead of the traditional gifts, we ask you to contribute to the cost of the reception buffet.”
“This will allow us to share a great meal and create memories with our loved ones.”
Please note that the cost per person will be $40 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under.

“To facilitate the planning process, please include your meal contribution in your RSVP,” it added. “Please include your name and the phrase 'wedding buffet contribution' on the payment report.”
The wedding note concluded: “Your presence at our wedding is the most meaningful gift we could ask for and we are truly grateful for your love and support as we begin this new chapter of our lives together.”
Members of the Facebook group did not hold back and made their comments. “If you can't afford a wedding, don't have a wedding,” wrote one.
However, some spoke of a practical request. One supporter said: “I have absolutely no problem with that and I think it's a bit strange, that people expect a great meal and alcohol for free, but they'll also complain if the food and alcohol isn't good enough or there's no open bar ».
Another added: “Is it bad that I don't actually have a problem with it? It's a reasonable amount, less than most people would spend on a gift, and it was clear they didn't want gifts.”
