“Bridgerton”: Will there (really) be a second season (or even nine)?

Despite being the most talked about series of the moment, loved and contested almost equally by the public and critics, the fate of Bridgerton it still hangs by the thread of uncertainty. The series, currently at the top of the most viewed titles on Netflix in Italy and in many other countries around the world, has not yet been officially renewed for a second season even if, in the light of the numbers, the hype and the animated discussion on social media and newspapers, it now seems only a formality.

In an interview with Variety, actress Nicola Coughlan, who lends her face to Penelope Featherington in the series, explained that the hope of a renewal is shared by all the members of the cast: “The welcome went beyond our wildest dreams,” explained Coughlan, protagonist on Netflix of another much loved series, Derry’s Girls.

“Until the gods of Netflix come down and bless us, we still don’t know what will happen. If it goes the way the books go, of course the second season would be more about Anthony Bridgerton’s story and I’d love that, because it would make the series fresher and with a completely different perspective. Anthony is a very different character from Daphne “ Nicola continued adding a few more details about the intentions of Chris Van Dusen, the creator of the series, regarding a possible continuation of the story. “The only things I know are what I can guess myself. It would certainly be a rather rich season, also because the first Lady Whistledown gazette was free while afterwards it would be paid ».

Beyond the many storylines left unfinished by the season finale – who will the Featherington estate go to? What will Colin do? And what will happen to Eloise? – the biggest hope of fans of the series is that the story of Bridgerton is as long as the Julia Quinn books from which it is taken: nine. The long seriality in the Shondaland house, on the other hand, is certainly not new – let’s think about Grey’s Anatomy, now in its seventeenth season -: everything is, however, in the hands of Netflix which, at this point, would have every reason in the world to push Bridgerton hoping it becomes the goose that lays the golden eggs as it happened with Stranger Things e The House of Paper. On the other hand, the conditions for going forward are all there, and even just hoping to continue contemplating the beauty of the handsome Duke of Hastings played by Regé-Jean Page could be a valid reason to insist.
