This Saturday (28), the French actress Brigitte Bardot complete 90 years . Considered one of the most beautiful women in cinema between 1950 and 1960, the actress left the industry and today lives in seclusion.
Despite being away from the cameras, she continues to speak out in the media in support of her great passion since retiring from entertainment: the defense of animal rights.
In 1962, Bardot became an animal ambassador at the age of 28 when she denounced a slaughterhouse that “stunned” cattle to reduce animal suffering. The information comes from his foundation created for animal rights.
It was in 1967 that she decided to leave cinema to dedicate her life to the animal cause.
As published on the Brigitte Bardot Foundation website, the actress took advantage of the day before her 90th birthday to send an open letter to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
In the letter, written in French and sent on Friday night (27), the former actress spoke about the importance of regulating the trade in products derived from seals, mainly furs. Bardot also calls for the protection of more seals and highlights the importance of the climate emergency, which affects the animals’ habitats.
“Madam President, I am not asking for a gift for my 90th birthday, but I would like us not to trample on the rare advances made during these decades of struggle”, reinforced Brigitte Bardot.
